Nomura Research Institute Course

NRI, one of Japan's leading thinktanks, is in the business of solving real-life problems and search for a path to Japan's best future by analyzing changes in global issues like economy, society, industry, corporations, technology, culture, environment, and more. It also works to help take the lead in our new age, such as promoting the "digital transformation" of society through technology, and proposing new economic indicators (GDP+i, DCI). This class will feature lectures by one of NRI's top consultants with real world experience, and will help students improve the way they approach modern, real-world changes through stronger understanding, analysis, insight, and problem-solving skills.

The information, media, and communications sector has experienced some of the greatest, most rapid changes of any in recent years. Dentsu Inc., Japan's leading enterprise in the communications industry, has been offering a course called Public Relations and Advertising Industry Theory since our institution's founding. Recently, Dentsu itself has undergone a major transformation, as well, with rapid internationalization through major acquisitions of foreign companies. It has also embraced and developed new technologies in response to digital innovations, and these are reflections of the way the communication business as a whole has been changing. This intensive course will be led by a team of five members of upper management. We hope it will help you get a real feel for the forefront of the media and communications industry.


Dentsu Course

Yomiuri Shimbun Course

This is a practical class conducted by media professionals from the Yomiuri Shimbun, including veteran front-line reporters, in the form of five intensive lectures in each semester. The topics are varied and include politics, economics, international affairs, society, photography, public opinion polls, IT projects, publishing, and much more. The intent is to help students deepen their understanding of media coverage and operations, and think about the challenges faced within the industry, with a primary focus on integrating theory and practice. Students will develop a wide range of knowledge and perspectives be better equipped for future work in related fields such as news reporting, public relations, advertising, publicity, and tourism. We also hope that students better know the diverse roles newspapers play in society.

JTB Course

We are entering an era in which tourism is expected to play a major role as a growth strategy to support our economic future. This JTB course uses government tourism policies, case studies, and field training in Hokkaido to help students understand real issues happening on the ground in local communities. It also offers practical learning to revitalize tourism regions from a business perspective, including fostering cooperation between public and private sectors and collaboration between tourism and other fields. Students should look forward to active learning opportunities connecting real front-line work with theoretical knowledge.
