Overview of the IMCTS Internship System

Our graduate school values practicality in learning, and so we have a unique internship system that allows students to experience real work environments while still enrolled in school.
Our internship program is not limited to standard university level training, but is a graduate level program that aims to provide students with the knowledge necessary for work and apply that knowledge in their future careers. The purpose is to motivate participants to both learn, and become more aware of the knowledge and skills they still lack, through actual work.
Our system is unique in offering opportunities based on IMCTS specialties and is limited to our own graduate students. It has been well received by the students who have participated as a valuable opportunity to gain practical business experience and a sense of the work before they start their careers.

Credit for Internship Participation

IMCTS credits internships as regular courses under the titles Practical Training I & II (Internship) and Doctoral Internship I & II. Students (master's and doctoral) who participate in the internship will receive credit if they meet the requirements.
The condition for credit recognition is that the student must participate in a work internship (practical training) for at least five days. Five days of actual work earn 1 credit, and ten days of the same work earn 2 credits.
Internship results are evaluated through comprehensive review, including participation results, evaluation reports from the internship host, a final internship report, and presentation at the internship debriefing session.

Internship Hosts with Ties to IMCTS

We have secured potential internship hosts (companies, organizations, etc.) for our students through organizational and personal relationships with our faculty. Some of the internship hosts (including public openings) where our graduate students can participate include Hokkaido Broadcasting Co., Japan Travel Bureau Foundation, Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, JTB Tourism Research & Consulting Co., Hamanasu Foundation, local governments (cities and towns) in Hokkaido, and tourism associations around the prefecture. We have a particularly robust international student internship relationship with the Hokkaido Broadcasting Corporation.
Naturally, students are free to apply to publicly available internships as they see fit.
