Every student will be assigned a faculty member as an advisor on admission to the master's program. The advisor will be available for assistance in the following:

(1) Choosing elective subjects

Students are required to choose and register for elective subjects themselves. However, in the first semester of their first year students must seek advice from an advisor when making their academic plan (deciding which courses to take). The advisor offers advice to each student based on his or her background, hopes, and interests, to help the student choose appropriate courses and design a research plan.

(2) Finding a Supervisor

Every student gets an supervisor in July of the first year of the master's program. The advisor can provide advice on selecting the most appropriate supervisor for each student's research topic when making that decision. Be aware that if the student's current advisor is selected as supervisor, the committee will assign a new advisor.

Advisors and Supervisors

Even after a supervisor is decided, students can still consult their advisor whenever they want.
The advisor system is primarily there to provide an official consultation service for students outside their supervisor, who provides research guidance, for advice on a wide range of issues including daily life, so the two roles are functionally different. However, that does not prevent students from discussing research issues with their advisors. Students can request a meeting with their advisor about whatever they want, whenever needed.
