Tourism and Regional Revitalization
My disciplinary background is Japan anthropology. I have conducted ethnographic research across Japan. I have a broad range of research interests in the modern culture and society of Japan, but I categorise them into five main areas (although there is some overlap between them): 1) Immaterial culture, specifically the practice and transmission of tradition in rural areas 2) Subjective well-being and alternative lifestyles in rural contemporary Japan, 3) Regional revitalization and tourism, 4) Youth culture: I have recently started an ethnographic project about the local hip hop scene in Hokkaido. 5) Lifestyle migration: Overseas Japanese and new forms of working.
